Member Attendance Requirements

Active Members must attend at least three Club functions per year, one of which must be a ski event.  (Bylaw 4.2 (a))

Associate Members are encouraged to attend at least two Club functions per year.  Those functions do not need to include a ski event.  (Bylaw 4.1(b)

Emeritus Members shall not be required to pay annual dues. (Bylaw 4.1(c))

Applicants on the Wait List must attend at least three Club functions per year, one of which must be a ski function.  (Bylaw 4.2)

Applicants must have attended at least one Club ski function and one Club social function within the twelve (12) months immediately preceding the filing of the Application. (Bylaw 4.3)

Ski Event and Social Event Definitions

A Ski Event is one that has been regularly scheduled by the Club, or scheduled with at least 10 days’ notice to the membership.  (Bylaw 4.3 (f), P & P 2)

A Social Event is one of those traditional events calendared at the beginning of the year, or otherwise placed on the calendar by the Board with at least three weeks’ notice to the membership. (P & P 2)

Any Member or Applicant may receive credit for a ski event (if the person actually skied) or a social event (if the person attended without skiing), when participating in any of the following: Family Ski Weekend, Out of State Trip, Ski Alert Days, Men’s Overnight or Women’s Overnight.  (P & P 2)

Annual Dues

Annual Dues are owed July 1 and delinquent August 1.  (Bylaw 6.8)

Active members pay annual dues of $___________.  (Bylaw 4.1(a))

Associate members pay annual dues of $___________.  (Bylaw 4.1(b))

Emeritus members and Associate members who have been members over fifty years do not pay dues. (Bylaw 4.1(c)) + (Bylaw 4.1(b)

Applicants on the Wait List do not pay dues. Prospective Applicants do not pay dues.

Corporate Status of the Club

Kandahar is a 501(c)(7) social club incorporated as a California nonprofit mutual benefit corporation.  (P & P 9)

Use of the Kandahar Name and Member Contact Information

The Kandahar Ski Club name, as well as the member lists, names and contact information contained in the roster, may only be used for Club business and to facilitate communication between Club Members.  (Rule 1)

Kandahar Insignia Standards

Club Colors – shall match the red and indigo colors depicted in the flag of Norway, the site of the 1952 Winter Olympics, per the corresponding “Pantone” color chart; red 032, blue 281. The gold color in our Kandahar flag is gold 116.  (P & P 8)

Club Logo – the flag, lapel, hat pin and associated paraphernalia shall feature the letter “K” mounted on a single ski, pointing downhill.  (P & P 8)

Duties of Club Officers

The club officers shall cause to be kept a record of all their minutes and acts and of the proceedings of the membership; to present a statement at the final meeting of the year for the Board of Directors showing in summarized form the financial statements of the organization; to supervise all officers and agents to see that their duties are properly performed.

President

Preside over the affairs of the Club and its meetings and oversee other officers and committee chairs. (P & P 7)

Vice President/President-Elect

Stand in for the President when he/she is not available or able, serve as Membership Chair and prepare for his/her term as President. (P & P 7)

Secretary

Keep a book of minutes of all meetings, proceedings, and actions of the Board and of members’ meetings, which minutes shall include the time and place of the meeting, the names of persons present, and the number of members present or represented at members’ meetings.  And, among other things, ensure that the minutes reflect filing of Federal Tax Form 990-EZ, California Tax Form 199, and California Statement of Information S1-100. Treasurer

Keep and maintain adequate and correct books and accounts of the Club’s properties and transactions;Report to the members and directors such financial statements and reports as are required to be given by law, by Bylaws, or by the Board;Deposit all money and other valuables in the name and to the credit of the Club with such depositories as the Board may designate;Disburse the Club’s funds as the Board may order;Render to the President, and the Board when requested, an account of all transactions and of the Club’s financial condition;Send out the dues notices and collect the dues, notifying the President, Membership Chair and Roster Editor once completed.  File by November 15 of each year Federal Tax Form 990-EZ and California Tax Form 199.  File by July 31 of each year the California Statement of Information S1-100.  (Bylaw Sec. 6.7, P & P 7)

Classes of Membership

The Club shall have three categories of membership, designated as follows: Active, Associate, and Emeritus.

Active Membership

Limited to fifty (50) memberships. Any person or couple dedicated to the Club’s purposes, living in Northern California, meeting the participation/attendance requirements set forth in Sec. 4.2 and Sec. 4.3.e., and paying the application fee or dues shall be eligible for membership in the Club, upon approval by the Board of Directors. Associate Membership

Upon application, or upon a motion of the Board of Directors, the Board may confer upon an Active Membership which is in good standing and has completed five (5) full years of membership, the status of Associate Membership. Such members shall have no voting privileges or be eligible to hold office but must pay regular dues and are encouraged to participate in two Club functions per year, although they need not participate in Club skiing functions. Emeritus Membership

A person who has been a member of the Club for at least fifteen (15) years and has made outstanding contributions to the Club may, upon reaching age 65, or older, be granted Emeritus Membership, upon unanimous vote of the Board. Such membership shall not be required to pay annual dues, but may enjoy all the benefits of Associate Membership without participation requirements.  (Bylaw 4.1(c))

New Member Sponsor Responsibilities

The two sponsors on a new Membership Application must represent two separate family units, not one.  Before sponsors may submit a new Membership Application, sponsors must make best efforts to introduce the proposed member(s) in person to everyone then serving on the Board of Directors.  (P & P 3)

Guidelines for King/Queen of the Hill

Appointment of Kings/Queens of the Hill – To the extent possible, the incoming President should appoint Kings/Queens by the date of the Organizational Meeting.

Timelines for Completing Tasks in Preparation & Conduct of Club Events – To the extent possible, the Kings/Queens should follow the Event Summary Form provided by the Social Chair.  (P & P 4)

Race Day Awards

Club Members’ race categories shall be divided by gender and age. Awards will be given to the first, second, and third place finishers for each gender in each category.

  • All classifications are duplicated for male & female.
  • Adults: Post-high school thru Age 29; Age 30-39; 40-49; 50-59; 60-69; 70-79; 80+.
  • School-Age Kids: Grade school (K – 6th); Junior High (6th or 7th – 8th); High School (9th – 12th).

Perpetual Awards

The Stag Award: Given to the fastest adult male racer.

The Starr Award: Given to the fastest adult female racer.

The Reece Cave Award: Given to the fastest junior high or high school boy.

The Laurie Van Camp Award: Given to the fastest junior high or high school girl.

Presentation of Awards

Winners in the Youth categories will be presented their awards after the races on Race Day.

Winners in the Adult categories will be presented their awards at the Awards/Annual Meeting Dinner.

Eligibility

Only Active and Associate Club members are eligible for the adult racer awards, and the high school age or younger children and/or grandchildren of Club members are eligible to receive the Reece Cave and Laurie Van Camp awards.  (P & P 1)
